100 mg acetylcysteine
•Helps expel sputum when coughing
•Helps to dilute sputum caused by respiratory disease
The medicine should be taken as directed by your doctor or pharmacist.
Recommended dose:
One month to two years: 100 mg twice a day (use of this drug in children under two years is allowed only with a doctor's prescription).
Two to seven years: 200 mg twice daily.
Over seven years and adults: 200 mg three times a day.
Children: Dissolve the contents of the sachet in a third of a cup water and give it to the child.
Adults: Pour the contents of the sachet directly on the tongue and swallow.
It is better to consume with plenty of water because consuming large amounts of water improves the performance of acetylcysteine.
Acetylcysteine is used to help treat respiratory disorders which are associated with thick and viscous mucus hyper secretion. This medicine makes the exit of mucus through coughing more easily by thinning it.
Like all medicines, Zymucil® can cause some side effects along with its therapeutic effects, although not everybody gets them.
Stop taking Zymucil® and get medical advice straight away if you experience any of these very rare side effects:
▪ Severe, life-threatening allergic reaction. The signs may include rash, swallowing or breathing problems, swelling of lips, face, throat or tongue.
▪ Severe bleeding
▪ Blistering, peeling, bleeding, scaling, or fluid filled patches on any part of skin. These parts may include lips, eyes, mouth, nose, genitals, hands or feet.
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if any of the following uncommon side effects becomes serious or lasts longer than a few days:
Headache, ringing sound in the ears, fast heart rate, feeling sick, diarrhea, inflammation of mouth or lips skin, abdominal pain, swelling of the deeper layers of skin caused by a buildup of fluid, itchy skin, fever, low blood pressure, tightness of the airways, shortness of breath and indigestion.
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken or might take any other medicines.
Consult your doctor or pharmacist before start taking Zymucil® if you are taking any of the following medicines:
▪ Medicines to treat coughs
▪ Activated charcoal
▪ Medicines to treat angina attacks, (tightness in the chest, neck and arm) such as glyceryl trinitrate.
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking Zymucil® in the following situations:
▪ If you suffer from asthma.
▪ If before you start taking this medicine, you have a reduced ability or inability to cough.
▪ If you are due to have blood or urine test.
▪ If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby.
Do not add any other drugs to the prepared solution.
This medicine usually does not affect the ability to drive or operate machinery. But if its use disrupts these abilities, do not drive or operate machinery until this side effect have completely disappeared.
Smelling sulphur odor (rotten egg) on opening the sachet is because of the nature of the medicine and it is not the sign of this product spoilage.
This medicine contains sunset yellow colouring agent which may cause allergic reaction in some people.
If you are under the treatment with oral antibiotics, take your antibiotic at least two hours before or two hours after using Zymucil®.
Do not take this medicine in the following situations:
▪ Allergy to acetylcysteine, acetylcysteine similar medicines (such as carbocysteine, erdosteine or mecysteine), or any of the other ingredients of Zymucil®.
▪ suffering from fructose intolerance genetic disorder.
▪ Allergy to acetylcysteine, acetylcysteine similar medicines (such as carbocysteine, erdosteine or mecysteine), or any of the other ingredients of Zymucil®.
▪ suffering from fructose intolerance genetic disorder.
Store below 25°C away from moisture and direct light.
